2G scam defense strategy of Kapil Sibal was outlined earlier after Arun Shourie referred to CON party fraud on 2G investigations. 

Heart of Kapilji's cover up strategy is as follows: 

1. Use Shivraj Patil Report to pass the buck on CON party/DMK party corruption to BJP
2. Make noises on action against corruption. Provide a pretense of action. Arrest A Raja (Ex Minister), Siddharth Behruria, RK Chandolia (DoT officials). Disable, place road blocks on successful prosecution. Protect P Chidambaram, Sonia Gandhi family.  
3. Talk of cancellation of licenses or at best provide a facade of action against one two entities. But do everything on ground to prevent fullscale cancellation, one step that will seriously penalize beneficiaries of corrupted 2G spectrum allocation process.Use CON party - friendly, corrupt media to disinform, misinform, obfuscate the central issue - 2G corruption. Corrupt media will at best parade looters - show some on camera, interview others, put up a pretense of scrutiny on the corrupt, but not ask basic questions and avoid the fundamental - penalizing the corrupt. 

Big media will parade on TV, super-duper clever-by-half lawyers, Harish Salve, Gopal Jain types, many of who represent the accused. Of course for the dubious big media it would not a big issue, to not disclose the lawyers' stakes in the trial, thereby directly doing a CON job.

One will hear facetious arguments like, 'foreign investment that is necessary for India's growth will be hurt'. Argument that Foreign Investment necessary for Indian growth will be impacted if we punish the corrupt is a canard. Existence of due process of law that can potentially prosecute corruption will be a deterrent for corruption and will be factored in by those making investments. Prosecuting the corrupt and punishing corruption is something in India's growth interests and not notional fines and legitimising corruption.

The CON party defence played out in the radia media on the expected line appalling the common Indian people. 

Kapilji gave an interview to NDTV 24/7 Sicko Deceit, Barkha Dutt. Barkha, steadfastedly refused to probe Kapil Sibal despite pretensions of seriously interviewing him. Self appointed guardian for probity and public morality, Barkha Dutt, refused to ask why Kapil Sibal wont take hard questions on Karunanidhi's family  cited for corruption or Shri Arun Shourie's fact based criticism of Shivraj Patil's Report or why CBI investigating officer was transferred or who is protecting the corrupt; let alone why madam - Sonia G and the prince Rahul G are muted on all this. For Barkha etc. buck on transparency and accountability stop at the gates of 10 Janpath. And of course Barkha never felt lobbying for A Raja to be Telecom Minister, to be news worth reporting. 

The other Radia Media, IBN Lies was no better. Subverting Arun Shourie's interview, the biggest feature of which was CON Party's shocking abuse of of CBI. Shourie highlighted that despite being informed and despite the evidence available, CON party ruled government not only refused to act, but also ended up transferring the investigating CBI officer. IBN did not consider this travesty to be fit as head-line. IBN also did not find it fit to headline who is subverting CBI? or Why? The media shys away from questionning Home Ministry to which CBI reports. In stead, IBN strangely headlined Arun Shourie's interview as 'BJP not interested in pursuing 2G case', 

Indian people online were appalled as the media was covering up for ruling CON party's serial misdemenours and using the interview to smear at BJP. Shri V Rao tweeted. 

Avant-garde Blogger and Tweeple @barbarindian called it Goebellsian Propaganda effort by the media: 

Tweeple @me_indian was not amused on the farce of CON party's media antics. He spoofed: 

CON party dynasty & allies that perpetrate divide and loot politics (divide people through sickular identity politics [jati/sampradhay] and then loot) will go any distance to obfuscate the scam and help the scamsters go scot free while claiming to care for the people. It is important for people to know that Indians will be suckered on 2G scam if:

• There is no successful prosecution
• There is no license cancellation and penalization. 

As mentioned earlier, the thiefs that enabled and perpetrated 2G loot must pay a political and material cost apart from exemplary punishment through the wheels of justice. It is important if we want India to change for the better. 

Post Script:

- 23 Feb 2011: Govt has sought to inform Supreme Court that cancellation of licenses is not in public interest, a position that enables cover-up, makes punishment of corrupt and recovery of loot difficult. Significant sections of media did not cover this news.

- 23 Mar 2011: Kapil Sibal/CON party cronies used corrupt media to allege VSNL disinvestment and . Arun Shourie's factual response exposed CON party's nefarious agenda. 

28 April 2011: Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) led by MM Joshi prepared a report on 2G recommending cancellation of the 2G licenses acquired through corrupt means and highlighting CON party Minister's questionable governance. As part of its cover up strategy, CON party tried to subvert the PAC itself.

2 February 2012: In a landmark judgment, and in a major victory for Dr Subramanian Swamy, Supreme Court of India cancelled 2G licenses. Congress party is planning to appeal the judgment. The prosecution and efforts to nail those that enabled the scam are still on. Unless those who enabled the corruption are successfully convicted, and the deterrent enabled, the incentive to loot will persist.
